Ingrid's Kitchen, NW OKC

Ingrid's Kitchen is a German restaurant/bakery that has been in OKC since 1977.  Since I spent a decent part of my childhood in Germany and have visited several times since, I have a strong love for authentic German food.  I knew it was going to be good the first time I stepped in a few years ago and my mind was flooded with memories of little neighborhood restaurants in our village in Germany!  Ingrid did not disappoint!
The weiner schnitzel is just like I remember in Germany!  Our favorite time to visit though is for Sunday Brunch buffet!  Not as much german food but a few things.  Everything is fresh and delicious and quite possibly the best part? The full bakery buffet!  I am not a big sweet eater...I prefer to fill myself to the gills with savory delights most of the time but their sugary confections are not to be missed.
Reservations for brunch are absolutely necessary for peak dates like Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Easter.  To be quite honest, Like most restaurants, its actually better when you eat here for brunch on a non-peak date.  We tried going for Mother's day this year and they kindly asked us to leave when we said we had no reservation so I got our Father's Day reso in nice and early!  Unfortunately some of my hubby's favorite pasta dishes weren't showcased for this "special" brunch.
Of note, I almost didn't try the fried chicken this morning because why would the german place have fried chicken worth my time and space in my belly?  I went ahead and grabbed a piece and it would have gone down in history as one of the biggest mistakes of my life if I hadn't.  The salty, crispy crust and juicy chicken was unbelievable.  For dessert, I almost waltzed past a heated vessel of what I can only describe as chocolate molten lava cake.  Again, I don't really care much for too much sweet stuff but I gave it a try.  If my tank hadn't been far past the full marker I would have got another plate of this stuff.  The cake was almost wet and fell apart in the best possible way and the icing was a plenty.  I really hate longing for more icing to go with a dry piece of cake, don't you??
The breads and pastries are just mouth watering.  In fact, my husband will no longer eat bagels from the grocery store and insists we pick our up from Ingrid's.  Since I am a HouseWife by trade, I oblige him and be sure to pick myself up a cookie or pastry along the way.  I always have to scrape my daughter off the glass front of the cakes and pastry coolers!
Stop in for brunch or for dinner but don't pass up the bakery.  They even have a discount cart and the closer to expiration the cheaper the goods.  In fact, the employees always get irritated with me if I try to buy full priced baked goods.  I love it.  "Don't you want anything off the sale rack, lady???"

What's for Dinner?!

Let me start off by saying, if you really like Chili's, Applebees, McDonald's or any other vanilla thoughtless chain, you probably won't enjoy this blog.  I am a gal that has been passionate about food since before I can remember.  My family tells me stories of my undying love for mealtime and genuine appreciation for all things delicious.  My dad loves telling people how I can give you directions (or keep from getting lost) from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida just by food landmarks!  I find great pleasure in all walks of food, but most importantly passion, great ingredients and love cooked right inside!  If I could see a police line-up of chefs/cooks I bet 9 times out of 10 I could pick the ones that could make finger licking good food!  You can just sense that spark people have for food!
I have decided to go on a journey of food through my city and cities that come my way...places I've been, dream to eat at, hear about and places if you are smart-you will listen and stay away from.  I think if I could have any dream career it would be to become a food critic or write a column about food or while we are dreaming here...host a food show of the likes of "Tasty Travels" or "Man v. Food".  But I figure, no sense in waiting around for my big break...I love talking about food so what's the damage in doing it for free, right?!
I hope you will share your thoughts and opinions on places I chat about or places you LOVE or HATE or suggested adventures!  So for those of you that live to eat not eat to live, join me on a quest of culinary delight!
**For proper credit-My hubby came up with "FoodWitch" as I was on a rant about a recent food stop which fell way below all expectations!  The broom only fits, when the food is the pits!
